Nothing Left to Pay, but Unrequited Love

I always thought that being the true undiluted you, was what we looked for in one another – a potential significant other, a love, that someone who completes you in such a manner that the words no matter how eloquent do it little justice otherwise…

I uttered these words once…in answer to a cheeky type of “how would you win my heart?” kind of question…about the stars in the night sky…

I remember writing “Hearts are not had as a gift but hearts are earned…” – Yeats – yes I know there is more to that quote…bare with me…

I added this:

“…I’d not be able to give you the myriad rainbows, the stars or command the sun to beautiful sunsets but I might want the honor of chasing rainbows ’cause we got caught in the rain while wandering through a forest, show you the stars against the most unspoilt sky or watch a sunset knowing that Yeats was complicated but understood that moment…”

I think back and the response while awed, tempered nothing further. I liken it to fly fishing in the most idyllic spot on earth, early morning the mist still just kissing the glass stillness, you alone with this almighty expanse of water, everything just perfectly set, you know the trout are there, they’re just not that interested in what you’re offering.

After a week or two thinking as too often I over do, it led me to an old quote:

Let no one who loves be called altogether unhappy. Even love unreturned has its rainbow.”
― J.M. Barrie, The Little Minister

I’m not the New Years traditionalist by any measure. I don’t do the resolution thing but I thought for a moment keeping that quote in mind, i’d share something that would resonate with her…

… When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man’s concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy

So this is for you:

At sunrise there lays before you a new calling of discovery, challenge, questioning and testing your capacity to change. At dusk and as the dark grows near, dream.

– Dream of what you discovered, the challenges you conquered or need to measuredly rethink, ponder the questions you asked and truly see if your capacity to change grew – see I believe life is not a day and night set of measured existence, yet you can set the seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks and years by its millennial waxing and waning you cannot, must not, measure life out so that you rise and fall by its behest.

Rather play amongst its mystery, revelling in its expanse, learning as it unfolds itself to your ever growing curiosity.

Happy New Year

Like i’ve not had to do this once before I find that i’m just not prepared do let time wile away – after giving away 8+ years of my life to someone who just walked away one day, i’m now the one who walks away…sadder still is that it has some twisted, dark prose born out of that act…

We might have walked, danced or soared the heavens , but instead I’ve walked away, nothing left to say.

We could have watched the sun, the moon, the stars at play… but instead I’m walking away, nothing left to say.

We talked, we laughed we sat in silent muse… but instead I’m walking away, nothing left to say.

The day, the light, the half light and the night, the mystery of the quietness, the sadness, the madness of the meaningless … but instead I’m walking away, nothing left to say…

Nothing left worth to stay – nothing left to say…nothing left to pay – but unrequited love.
